URG 9000D Ambient Ion Monitor

The Purpose: This project collects reliable data on important air quality parameters such as gases, anions, and cations and to verify the accuracy of the data collected.
The URG9000 unit is located at Air Monitoring Station (AMS) #1 in Ft. McKay. Preliminary results indicate that there is a strong correlation between the continuous SO2 and URG9000 readings. Other emission species were evaluated in 2010.
In 2011, the URG station may be moved to another monitoring location, so a range of exposures can be assessed in the region with this instrument. Moreover, the COTAG unit was co-located with the URG from mid April to the end of May 2010 to compare results. Wind direction and speed from the COTAG can be compared with the met data from the AMS #1. An assessment of co-located results is currently being undertaken.
Reports and ongoing monitoring are expected in 2011.
